Strangulation

Giarratano allegedly confessed that he strangled Michelle Kline with his hands. Forensics experts felt that the “pattern of injuries on the face and neck, internally and externally were “most consistent with strangulation by a broad object such as a forearm (type-chokehold) behind the victim. No hallmarks of manual strangulation, such as discrete bruising by fingers, or fingernail marks were found.

NOTE: There are only two types of strangulation:

  • Manual: By the use of the hands.
  • Ligature: Anything other than the hands, i.e. rope, cord, and chokehold.
